Upgraded my Kobo to V1.4 yesterday. The reader works fine but the Kobo reader crashes with "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application"

Running under Windows 7 64 bit.

Anybody else have the problem?

I appreciate that it works in most environments. However, it doesn't work for me and I am trying to see if anyone has experienced the specific problem I am having.

I have sent an email to Kobo support but have not received a reply.

If I don't hear back from them today, I will try to uninstall and re-install the software provided I can find a link to it.

Follow up.

Hadn't had a response from Kobo so I downloaded the software, uninstalled and re-installed.

Appears to be working for the moment.

Exactly the same thing happened to me when I upgraded. I couldn't remember how to get the desktop application so I phoned the support line, and it was a quick fix. (the program is on the kobo itself so you have to connect and then go through 'my computer' to find the installer). Works fine now. And I do like being able to hide all those books that were pre-loaded. Also the upgrade seems to tell the kobo to automatically power off when you leave it on. Other than that, don't know what it does.

How do you hide all the books? Is that done through the Kobo app or the device itself?

You are not the only one with that problem.

I am also running Windows 7 64-bit and I had the same application crash after the update. I contacted Kobo support and their answer was to uninstall and reinstall the desktop application.

One strange thing that happened is that I lost the "read" status on all the books that I've already read.
