The DSR500 and DSR505 will do the same thing occationally.
Sometimes its related to a download, othertimes it just happens...I'm not sure why.

If you can unplug the receiver or get it back on through some other method, I don't think its too big a deal.

Yes. It is particularily bad on CBS East, but its caused because of Football (or any sporting event for that matter) which tends to run long. CBS likes to run everything else out of sync rather than interrupt the first program in progress and have everything else on schedule.

I always record off CTV or CBS W for that reason on Sundays.

Video + audio dropouts at the same time are "normal" in that when there is a temporary loss of signal, that is how it should behave. Coax cable, LNBF, outside interferance could all be a cause.

Just audio dropouts are more strange, but I have heard of a few people experiencing them. What type of home theatre receiver are all of you using? I've been working off the theory that THAT is where the problem lies.

Seriously...

The DSR530 is still not working properly. It freezes/locks on an on-going basis.
Kevin270, I think YOUR DVR530 isn't working properly.

If all of them worked the way you describe, there would be a heck of alot more complaints online (including lawsuits, media involvement, etc.) than the 10-15 people we hear from here.

How often is your DVR actually freezing? I would strongly suggest calling Star Choice looking for a "solution" to your issues. The answer will probably be a replacement unit.

Kevin270 - I present you with the following challenge.

Using the Ask Jim link on www.starchoice.com, send off an articulate, polite letter indicating that after 5 months with the new CC code, you are still completely unsatisfied with your 530 and want a refund. Flat out. Outline the issues you are still having.

I would like to know what the response is.

Officially, a fried 530 can be replaced for $99 from SC, which is only paid when/if you need it and is pretty close to the exented warranty that FS or BB will cost.
Actually, its $199.

In
the case of the DVR530 HD, Star Choice offers a special program whereby Customers may replace defective or
damaged Receiver(s) that are no longer subject to the manufacturers limited warranty for refurbished Receiver(s) at a
purchase price of $199.00.
