Yep, we all seem to be getting targeted right now.

It's too bad that *C couldn't use channel "530" to tell us about the update... it would be nice I think.

I haven't noticed anything new since the BC code but I did notice that Diagnostic Screen "R" (Options-6-4-9-7-7-1-Left Arrow button) now shows in Gigs how much space is left on the HD. My 160G HD only has 134.7G of space left on it and that's without any programs recorded. So it takes 25G to just run this box????? WOW thats more than my Windows XP computer.

Haven't fully tested but it looks like parental locks will now hide locked out channels from the general guide, just like in the days of the 400 series.
The 530 has always done this but it would be nice if it would lock the channels out when you're channel surfing up and down like the 300 and 400 series receivers.

I have encountered 1 bug... when I press Options-6-4-6 I get booted out the the menu. This happen to anyone else?

Other than that my 530 seems to be working fine after a full day of playing with it. I've been home on holidays this week. I haven't been able to make it crash yet although it did reboot by itself during a channel surf yesterday afternoon but thats been about it.

So far I am pleased with the unit again.

I finally had my first freeze up last night. I wanted to watch a channel that I had locked out and when I go to the channel normally you would get the screen that asks you to enter your password. That screen came up but kept flashing on and off making it impossible to enter the password. After a minute or two of waiting for the flashing to stop it just froze up. I have noticed this flashing whenever I'm channel surfing but is hasn't been a problem until lastnight. This flashing doesn't happen all the time though. It took 2 front panel power resets to get it fixed.

Wow, where did you get a receiver that had such old code? I got a refurbished receiver from *C the week before the update and it came with A8 and took the CC update the first night it came down.

Wow, that is one bad box. Might want to wait until Monday morning to speak to a 530 tech. They will probably end up sending out another one. My old BC code box died on a Monday night and I phoned Tuesday morning and had a new (refurbed) box the next day. I've only had 1 freeze up in the almost 2 weeks of the CC code.

I've been quite happy with my refurbed unit. It seems I'm going about 11 or 12 days between front panel reboots... which is much better than the once or twice a day I had to do with my original unit.

One thing I'm doing differently is I've decided to keep the glass door off the front of my tv stand. Let the air flow better and keep it cooler. Was running about 59C with the door on but now its down to 52C. I have heard others say heat is an issue so "quimby..." make sure your 530 isn't sitting on some other electronic components that create heat and that the vents on the side and top are clear.

I would suggest waiting for the CC code and then hook up the dvi-hdmi cable. The CC dowload should occur between 2am and 5am overnight tonight so make sure your receiver is turned off (not unplugged) and on channel 299 (not an HD channel). Code A0 is very old... over a year so I think there was alot of problems with the dvi cable then.

As far as wait times goes I'm surprised you weren't offered an automatic call back if you had to wait that long. Last time I called there was a 13 minute wait but I was offered the auto callback option and then it was only about 5 minutes later when they called back.

Kevin270,

You may want to adjust your SNL timer to 11:29-1:00. SNL seems to start at 11:29 and 30 seconds so you miss the first 30 seconds or so if its set for 11:30.

And Yes, I've had this conflict too with recording something at 12:00am-1:00am Saturday morning and then SNL at 11:30pm-1:00am Saturday night but the 530 seems to think that the last 2/3 of SNL is on Saturday morning instead of Sunday morning. I record the later edition on 289 at 2:34am Sunday morning.

Yogi,

You probably won't even have to wait 7-10 days either... When I got mine switched last year it was less than 24 hours before it showed up at my door. Phoned on a Monday afternoon and it was delivered Tuesday morning just before noon. That was fast!
