I'm pretty sure that they (DevTeam) had already announced that, having looked at the 2.2 beta, they'd have pwnage tool ready to go shortly after the public release of 2.2.

I have not JB'ed since the 1.1.4 on an iPod touch, but if I did JB an iPhone 3G would I have to start from a fresh device and reinstall the aps? or could I restore a backup?
It's generally recommended NOT to restore from a backup - with what's going on under the skin with a jailbreak, putting files back "where they used to be" apparently causes issues.
