Not sure if it's ok to start a thread about this, moderators feel free of course to merge it to another. I think there is enough interest in the cases to merit it's own thread and a quick search did not really answer my questions.

I bought an iPad 2 and of course got the smart cover. I think it is a great add on and work great, light, easy to use and love the fact that it puts it to sleep when closed and wakes it when opened.

However like many I am worried about the back. Ever since my iPhone I have become a case guy. I need as much of it protected from scratches and scuffs. So I am currently using a Belkin black case that wraps all around and still has the ability to fold into a stand. It is very much the design they had for the iPad 1.

I find the front a bit bulky and liked the total access to the front the smart cover offered. Also miss the sleep/wake function.

Speck is said to have one coming that seems the best of both world. It looks exactly like a smart cover but with a sleeve for the back. Almost perfect but again no sleep/wake function.

Seems the best for me would be a back shell of some kind that works with the smart cover. I would buy both. Seems one is coming to the us but am curious to know if you guys know of one already. If not what are you guys doing case or cover wise.

If you are just worried about scratches (and not dropping it) take a look at an Invisible Shield from Zagg (clear stick on, includes front and back). I have one on my iPad 1 and it works well (takes some time to install) and will be getting one for my wife's iPad 2.

I just bought the SwitchEasy Canvas for Ipad 2. It is a folio that has a magnet so works with the auto on/off. Bought online from the site direct.

There are also now companies that are producing back covers that work with the smart cover (iLuv, Incipio, AviiQ, Enki). Also Marware has a cover that combines a smart cover like front and back protection that also works with auto on/off. I would have got this if I did not get the switch easy

I also opted for the Canvas from Switcheasy. Ordered it last Wednesday evening and it was delivered Friday so there order response is excellent. $50 plus $15 for shipping, no other charges. Comes with microfibre cloth, screen film, plugs for the headphone and 30-pin connector to match the rest of the case. It adds a little bulk and weight but that was not a concern for me, so I'm pretty happy with it. If this is the format or type of cover you want for the iPad 2 I would certainly recommend it.

I'm in the same situation as the OP, I want something to protect the back of my iPad 2.

A while back, I got a free GelaSkin offer from Rogers wireless so I got one for my work iPhone. It's just a plastic/gel sheet that sticks on the device so I don't see why it wouldn't work with the iPad's Smart Cover. I sent them a message asking if they will work together.

They aren't too bad, a little pricey for an iPad - $30 and it's just a skin, not a case. You can even use your own artwork or photo.

I'm a big fan of those "invisible shield" type skins. While it takes some time and patience to install, once it's on, it's indeed pretty much invisible, allows any other case/dock to still fit overtop, and provides some much-needed grip to the iPad.

I found on the front that it reduced the fingerprints showing up so blatantly, but it was also a little tougher to swipe/pinch/etc. do to that same "grippy-ness".

tpu or silicon cases on ebay.... I think TPU ones are a harder rubber than the jelly like silicon ones....

I ordered 2 TPU cases from ebay.... one is smart cover compatible. The other is not.... One from the GTA and one from overseas. They cost $10-12.

I'm hoping the GTA one will arrive on Tuesday.... we ordered it last Sunday.
