The number of Internet domain names grew by nearly 3.5 million in the final three months of 2010 according to Verisign bringing the number of registered domain names across all Top Level Domains (TLDs) to 205.3 million.

The total number of registered domains increased by 12.1 million names or 6.3 percent during 2010.

The two most popular top level domains are .com and .net which finished the year with a combined base of approximately 105.2 million names. New .com and .net registrations totaled 7.6 million during the fourth quarter, an increase of 4 percent from a year ago.

The base of Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) was 80.1 million domain names, a 0.3 percent increase from a year ago.

Verisign's average daily Domain Name System (DNS) query load during fourth quarter 2010 was 61 billion, with a peak of 72 billion. Compared to the same timeframe in 2009, the daily query average and the peak both grew by 17 percent.

Why don't you believe that number? Seems like it should be a pretty easy number to calculate.

How many entries in the DNS servers worldwide.
