This is my first time on this forum but it sure looks like there are alot of knowledgable people here. I presently have a std dish setup feeding 2 only 4100 receivers. I just purchased an HDTV and hooked it up to a new 6131 HD receiver that replaces one of the 4100's. Of course I dont have the hd channels yet. I purchased a Dish 500 legacy twin dual output lnb with built in switch SW21 from ebay and want to change the dish so I can receive the hd channels on the HDtv and still feed the 4100 std digital receiver. Having looked at this forum I am quite confused. Would anyone know what is involved in replacing the std def dish with the 500 dish. Thanks in advance.

Install from Standard Dish to Dish 500

Just as an FYI, there is no such thing as an SD Dish and an HD Dish, the Satellite you are looking at with Bell will determine if you get HD or not. On Bell TV, 91 carries all SD Channels and 82 carries all the HD and some SD Channels.
Now, moving along. Does the Dish that is currently feeding the 2 x 4100's have space for just 1 LNBF? If Yes, then it is an older 18" Dish and will olny receive signals from 1 Sat at a time. There are small brackets available from FTA type stores that will allow reception of 2 Sats but the signal stregth will be reletively low.
I can now only guess that you bought a Dish 500 with a Twin LNBF that has the built in switch's. If so, then you will have to mount and aim the Dish 500, I would suggest covering over the side of the LNBF that aims at 82 (If it is a Dish 500, it might be marked as 119). Then set the Skew for your location, then peak the Signal strength for 91. When you have done that, remove the covering from the 82 side of the LNBF, run a "Check Switch" and that should be it.
Run the other line to the LNBF and that will feed the 4100, again, run "Check Switch".

Thx for prompt reply. The existing dish has a single lnb with 2 cables running from it.
Then if there is no room for another LNBF it is an 18" Dish.
I think it is the 110 side that needs to be covered if aiming for 91.

Egg nog martinis!! to good. Thx again for your help guys. So i have to replace dish, lock on 91 feeding my 4100 then lock on to 82 to feed my 6131?? .
If the skew is set correctly before you lock onto 91, 82 should just be there, like magic.....lol
