Recently acquired another 505 HD reciever.

I thought it would be as simple as hooking up a splitter I had lying around and it would work. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I have read about using a stronger splitter. Hopefully that's all that is needed.

So can I run one line from the dish and then split it to two 505's? I've read some posts about having to run two lines, one for each 505. Does my LNB have two outputs on it?

Thanks for any help!

You can not split the line. Each receiver needs a dedicated line. The elliptical dish LNB has 4 outputs.

The only time you can split the dish line, is if you have a round stacked dish/LNBF, or do no care about receiving the F2 satellite.

If you have duial sat and care about receiving both, and/or a non stacked LNBF, you cannot split and expect to independantly receive all channels on two receivers.
