Looks like Hotmail somehow managed to purge (many?) users inboxes over the weekend. No word yet as to whether the data can be recovered.

"At this point it appears to be a limited issue, and Microsoft is working with individual users who are impacted. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers," Microsoft spokeswoman Catherine Brooker said in statement Saturday.

I just checked my Hotmail and everything is fine.

Microsoft Blames Server Problem for Hotmail Outage

Microsoft says it has fixed a problem with its Windows Live Hotmail service that temporarily deleted the e-mail of more than 17,000 users.

The trouble began on Dec. 30 when the e-mail in 17,355 accounts disappeared. On Monday, a Microsoft executive wrote that the company had identified the technical glitch and restored e-mail to the affected accounts by Sunday night.
