hi everyone i am new to the home theather stuff. i just bought a new yamaha RX V667 and i am having some trouble hooking it up. i would really appreciate any help you guys can give me. thanks.

here is my setup

Panasonic Plasma TV TH-5080U
Panasonic Blue Ray DMP-BD85
Xbox 360
Starchoice DSR 505 receiver

Xbox hooked into HDMI 2 on receiver..problem, screen is stretch when playing game, but if i hook directly to TV it is fine

Blue Ray. same thing sreen is also stretch but not as noticeable hooked to hdmi 1 on the receiver

Starchoice..this is the biggest problem, since it is dvi-hdmi, i have the video going directly to the Tv, and audio going to the receiver. i tried component to the receiver but the picture really sucked and it took a long time to switch between analog and digital channels. i also tried hdmi 3 and setting the sound to AV 2 via digital coax but i could not get any picture this way, don't know why.

My biggest question is why everything is stretch when i put it through the receiver.

thanks for you help

I'm guessing that you enabled the stretch mode in the AVR? There's an option for something like original signal or "full" or something similar?

Also, signals are not usually stretched if they are HD (720P or 1080i). Make sure you've got the settings in each of the devices sending the signals set appropriately.

You cannot use DVI through the AVR as discussed in the following SD thread - you need to connect directly to the TV with the older STBs: Component video should work through the AVR (along with digital audio). Sounds like you may have incorrectly changed some settings in the AVR. You may wish to reset it to the default settings to get things working properly.

If only the SD STB is stretched, then you may have invoked a stretch mode on it, or it's not set properly for HD signals. The 505 should be set to 1080i output using the red button behind the small panel on the front of the unit. You may have it set for another format, which the TV is then stretching. Or you have it set for 0000 (Passthrough), in which case the TV may stretch 480i signals and leave the 1080i HD signals alone. If the latter passthrough is being used, simply unstretch 480i signals/channels on the TV's stretch modes.

Suggest you check out the FAQs link I provided earlier, and specifically:
