Hey just wondering if anyone has herd something on if or when Fiber Op HD quality will be improved... i presently have both Aliant and rogers TV service but i have had to remove everything but basic service off Aliant and switch rogers to my main as compared to rogers HD especially on sports it is pretty bad... i mean i only have rogers for the few channels Aliant doesn't have plus you get Aliant TV dirt cheap in the bundle so i wanted to drop rogers and just get those shows off the net (Netflix ect.) but just can't justify it at the moment as on my 55" Phillips Aliant looks pretty bad... anyone got any info?

that just sucks but oh well contract with aliant is up soon, guess i will just drop tv service...
well for starters im not having any issues with the HDMI, and the picture quality is actually a little better from the hdmi, and i have a toslink going to my home theater which also works fine... L/R analogue audio cables sound like crap... and i never noticed the 5.1 not working but 5.1 is an option in the menu...? all i know is until aliant dedicates more bandwidth to HD it just suck comp to rogers or sat and i am in an apartment so sat is not an option.
i just got the fibeop installed a few days ago and after a day i do not know if this can be considered HD. i mean it looks like just a normal SD feed with the HD resolution. i found TSN last night during the hockey game horrible but some stations like golf HD seemed better. i also find the SD channels worse then bell tv sat. the text on CBC news network is barley legible. but i guess the fast Internet and price make up for it

edit: forgot to add i have one 37" TV connected to HDMI and a 50" plasma connected with component and they both have the same quality HD
is there a reason you don't have the HDMI hooked up to the larger TV? when you go over 46 inch you usually start to see a difference with HDMI the bigger you go (I have seen a major difference from Sharp, Panasonic & Samsung especially when using HDMI)
well really comparing Samsung to Sanyo is like comparing a BMW to Kia lol.
i donno i have seen fibre/rogers/bev all side by side and bev and rogers were the same but fibre was a clear differance (as in being worse)
well i am at my uncles rite now were they have fibreOP and basic rogers service. so i grabed my DCX3400 and brought it to play and there is absolutly no comparison rogers blows aliant rite out of the water all we are doing is going from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 on a Panasonic TC-P55VT30 and have tried coax to connect the box and CAT6 just to make sure the best cables were used to rule out any advantage. you can clearly tell the edges are softer and the colour just seems off on aliant ( this is watching TSN and Sportsnet which for me is one of the main reasons to have tv :p ), i donno but aliant really needs to do something... there is a reason for when you go into sounds fantastic all the equipment on the floor is hooked to Bev and not aliant. how ever there is usually one lowly aliant tv off in a corner some wheres lol
See less See more
well aliant does dedicate more bandwidth to TMN/HBO so if those are the movie channels you are referring to then yes you will see a difference on those channels but really SD can only get so good so ya it is pretty well the same as all other providers on that market. on a side note the 120Hz does not really make a difference as the input signal from the receiver is only 60Hz.
.... what type of tv you have or cabling dont really matter when aliant reps them selves admit they are working on the HD quality...
@NO-CRTC, i don't know what to say as you seem to be the only person in Atlantic Canada not seeing issue's with fibreop HD....
meh i already switched back to rogers 100% pulled all the aliant services out all together plus your TV could only really be equal to mine as i am currently using a Samsung UN55D8000 which at the moment is still one of the best tv's on the Canadian market...
