The simsubs are automatically programmed by the quality department of Vidéotron. During the week, they usually have an average reaction of 2 minutes.
But on sunday late-afternoon and evening, that department is quasi-inexistent. Feels like they all went out to lunch or they're too busy watching a game/porn.

I tried to call STC department at 7pm to notify the problem, a waiting time of 15 minutes to get a line, then identify myself, get the phone rep to understand what you're saying, wait for the phone rep to open up a customer ticket, be placed on hold while he's calling his Level 2 tech. 2 minutes later, phone rep have to hang up and get back to me to say there's a waiting time, put me back on hold while he contacts his Level 2 tech again... Level 2 tech must understand what phone rep tells him and customer ticket is forwarded, then Level 2 must open a trouble ticket and contact the quality department... waiting time again... phone rep gets back to me to tell the simsub error will be fixed in 2 minutes. It's 7:27pm and simsub finally ended.

With CTV HD, Global HD and Metro 14 HD now simsubbing american channels, I opted for an outdoor antenna, simsub-free.

I remember the good old days not too long ago when the only HD feeds were from TO and was able to watch all American channels in Montreal without the irritating sim-subs.

Unfortunately those days are now over and we are back to the old standard.

OTA is one option the other is scouring the schedule of the American channels to find rebroadcasts, usually on the weekend, where the show appears in native (non-sim sub) HD.

Too bad they never got the HD feeds from the west coast, as that would have been another option...

In a Videotron promotion in response to Bell satellite promoting their extensive channels lineup last year, they were stating they offer unique channels instead of a bunch or channels showing the same thing. And well, it's true, they don't offer HBO 2, and neither west coast feeds for Showcase, Comedy, TVtropolis, etc., and no MExcess HD or MFun! HD either, maybe because most movies on those channels air on TMN HD anyway. So, Vancouver HD and Seattle HD ain't gonna happen for a while. TVA West HD may happen, but they don't even offer TVA shows in HD on Illico on Demand, so there's no point.

A few years ago, when a live TV show like dancing or idol on CTV was scheduled to end at 10:01pm but Global was ready to start simsub at 10pm on the same channel while CTV had to start simsub on another US channel. They somehow spoke with each other and Global had to reluctantly adjust to 10:01pm to solve the simsub headache.

Anyways, the TV Hebdo wizards (those who provide illico on-screen guide) had the brightest idea to adjust schedule for ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox to 10:01pm to take canadian simsubs into consideration eventho one affected US network started at 10pm sharp. But since TV Hebdo used copy & paste (they're heavy users of that) for the HD feed, you ended up programming your PVR for 10:01pm but you missed the first minute due to TV Hebdo's dumb decision. Might still happen this year.

Football and baseball overruns will be fun for simsub screwups this october. Enjoy.

It happened nation-wide on Shaw Direct last night, and it also happened on Vidéotron as baseball ended at 8:53pm, then Terra Nova started. At 9pm sharp, Global HD simsubbed over Fox HD for House during 5 bloody minutes! A whole segment missing. WOW! Nice job guys!

Heck, I noticed too late that Terra Nova also aired on Citytv at 8pm, so it was too late to PVR it, and I already had PVR'ed Hart Of Dixie at 9pm on Metro 14 (which was missing from the PVR's schedule, no less!) so I couldn't program House on Global HD and Terra Nova on Fox at 8:53pm, which is why I stuck with the FOX HD programming.

I would have opted for a west coast feed of Fox HD instead... which doesn't exist on Vidéotron. Time for me to buy an ATSC PVR and get rid of over-expensive-and-bottom-quality cable.

I also use zap2it, but you always have to double-check if TV Hebdo has made a mistake. C'mon, I have other things to do than double-check my PVR programming every week.

Also, areas out of the Greater Montreal are simsub-free (think Saguenay), those extra minutes on US networks can be annoying.

I don't know if any of you have noticed that since Videotron switched the 4 American networks from Burlington, MA to Detroit they are now in simsub. That is one of the reasons i quit Bell, they were simsubbing the American Networks and were starting the same with the West Coast feed of NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox. I called Videotron to ask them why this switch was done and they told me that it was the broadcaster that decide this. I smell a rat.....i think the CRTC forced them to change at the request of Bell to be able to spew their damn commercials and false ratings claim.. If it wasn't for my wife who watched TV, I would cancel the cable and watch it all through my computer. I have a DNS with Unotelly and i can watch any American station I want. I don'r know about you, but I am sick and tired of being told how which way i can watch TV or which sites I can or cannot visit. We live in a perceived democracy people....
