I see George R. R. Martin's "OF Fire and Ice" is due out next month in 10 episodes called "Game Of Thrones". Evidently 1 book for 1 season. Trailers at the HBO.com site.

Never read the books, my wife loves them, but in terms of length and depth make "Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" trilogy look like Readers Digest.

I had never read the book prior to watching the first few episodes, but have since picked up the first book. It really, really helps when watching the series.
We will likely archive the full season and give it a try again at some point. Watching them all in a row may be easier.

We have done that with other shows, and find that it really helps in remembering characters and actions that would have been a few months before in the normal broadcast schedule.

Game of Thrones is becoming more and more complex, as the level of politics and intrigue surrounding the throne are brought to light. You almost need a scorecard/character summary!
I almost forgot how brutal the plot becomes when it comes to killing off well established characters. My wife had to pick her jaw up off the floor at the end of the latest episode. :p

*update* - Apparently the Internet is awash in people swearing they will never watch the show again. Wimps.
It's just talk... These people are hooked just like I was when I realized that the books were not like any epic fantasy that had come before. This series has changed the entire genre - for the better.
well this I just lovely, a year until my next fix. At least True Blood is coming back soon.
Just watched this series, all in a row. Great show. I never read the books, but I watch with subtitles, and I always find subs make it easier to understand what's going on.

Unfortunately, I'll forget most of what happened by the time an HBO second season comes up.
You think that's bad? It's been almost SIX years between the release of the last book - A Feast for Crows and today when A Dance with Dragons finally appeared.

I'm going to have to re-read AFfC before I can crack open the new book!
Is there any chance this show will be shown on another channel as I don't get HBO? Thanks

I was in the same boat - started reading Dance with Dragons only to find out I forgot a lot of the secondary characters
I find that Wikipedia provides a good reminder as to each book's plot and character storylines, without having to invest the time in re-reading the books.
I actually went back and started from Clash of Kings. I always meant to go back and read the books anyway. I've never been a Coles Notes kind of guy...

Also, nerdfest:

Game of Thrones

Does anyone know why this has been removed from TMN Series?
I thought this was an HBO Series.
Can't find this anywhere on Fibe tv.

Use to be on Bell but foe some reason i can't find it.....
That's because it hasn't started yet and it is's on HBO Canada.
cxrman you can see reruns of s2 starting next sunday (not tomorrow but next).
