I discovered there's a firmware update for my HDTV,but I'm hesitant attempt the update after having issues with my Sony BD player.

The update came out in Dec 2010.

Rule of thumb with firmware is "do you need the update?"

What does it supposedly fix. If you're not having the problem then maybe best to sit on the sidelines.

I've just checked the Sony web site and there is one available for my 46" Sony Bravia KDL-46V5100 as well. This will be my third update.

My set requires the use of a USB thumb drive to apply the update. You download the update from Sony, de-archive it, copy it to a thumb drive (I always reformat the drive (MS FAT) before copying the files over), plug the drive into the proper USB port on the back of the set, turn the set on and wait for the update to complete.

All previous updates have gone without a hitch, this one seems to have reset everything to factory defaults which is a little annoying but nothing to worry about for me.
