Was at Bluesfest last night and here's some shots I took at ISO 1600. Didn't have my glasses so I couldn't see the menu to enable ISO 3200 via the Custom Functions - LOL.

Most of the shots I had to take down 1.5EV to bring back the blacks & stop the highlights from being blown so I could have shot most of these at 1/500 - 1/650.

Nice action shots, gordonb! I have a T2i and wasn't sure how good the 1600 ISO was but got some nice shots at Rush. I used the 55-250mm zoom so am a bit envious of your f2.8.

I'd be careful about setting the ISO max to 3200 though. I was at Bluesfest on Thursday night and took some shots of Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band on a small stage with lower lighting and at ISO 3200, the shots are too grainy. Of course with the f2.8 that might not be a concern for you.

Thanks Jayson. I think ISO 3200 might be OK as I have a full frame sensor and it has fairly large pixels. It's not so much the maximum aperture of the lens as much as the size of the pixels and the senor's dynamic range that cause grain. Of course with the larger aperture you can shoot at the same speed with a lower ISO.

I really wanted to get on the field (all these were shot from the Empire Grill section) and get up close and personal but with 40,000 in attendance I didn't think I could get that close once the band started.

Nice shots of Rush - I like the last one where you caught the stick in the air.

Great photo guys, gordon your 2nd and 3rd photo look good and sharp.

How did you find the iso noise camera at iso1600 should be minimal. The photo's looks like it cleaned up very well.

The last set looks good, I can only imagine the shot if you were right up there in front of the stage.
