Hi Guys,

After an incredible amount of help from people in this forum, I have all the hardware for my new HTPC. And, to say I’m super excited would be an understatement. =)

Now that I have the hardware, it’s time to start setting it up so it actually functions as an HTPC.

This is where I’m a bit stuck and I’m hoping the savvy experts in this forum can lend a hand and give me a push in the right direction.

I am installing Windows Vista Ultimate as the OS, which I’ve done before so that’s easy.

After that, is there anything special I have to do to configure this for use as a HTPC as opposed to a regular PC?

For example, I’d love to be able to control everything with my Harmony Remote, but in order for that to work (I think) I need to be inside Windows Media Center.

So, do I have to configure it somehow so on boot up it goes right into WMC?

Are there any other tricks or tweaks I should be doing that I’m probably not thinking about?

Also, for my DVD library I was looking at the WMC plug-in “My Movies”. Does anyone have any feedback on that? Is it good? Is there something else that may be better?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I use Girder along with my USB-UIRT to control my HTPC. It's got a bit of a learning curve but once it's setup you can make it do pretty much anything.

I'm not sure if Girder will work with your IR receiver but if you check the support page it will let you know.

I ditched WMC and use the free and opensource MediaPortal. It is awesome. I control it using my Shaw remote after I made it learn the signals off of a generic WMC remote ($20 off ebay)

The are significant developments in improving the Video Browser (now renamed Media Browser).
Find the corresponding thread in the HTPC section of A.V.S. and look through the last two pages.
