I finally made the plunge after much research. I bought an N1 a few seconds ago. Says will ship in 1-3 business days (I engraved it so it takes longer). How long did your N1's take to ship to Toronto?

Now I have to figure out the best Pay As You Go Plan with either Rogers, Bell or Telus.

Going to use 500 meg/month of data and not much voice. Any advice?

Very nice, definitely take advantage of using your home and if possible work wireless networks. When using my HTC Hero, I used to use around 500 MB a month from the TELUS 3G network but now that I use the WiFi networks at home/work it has drastically been reduced. For example, this month I have used 85.17 MB of 3G data and 356.05 MB of WiFi data as calculated by my free "Stats" app from the Android Market. Now I don't worry about going over or having to go to upgrade to the 1 GB plan.

Enjoy

That is exactly my plan: to use other wifi networks (work/home). I got that tip from this forum. Love this forum by the way.

Thanks for all your help!

Any idea how long it will take (Cali to Toronto)? DHL delivery. I engraved it so it adds 2 business days.

I ordered mine on a Wed afternoon and had it (non-engraved) by Friday.

Re: best plan

As you know, I'm on Rogers PAYG without data and it works well for me. I was on Bell PAYG when I bought the N1 and could have stayed with them, but Bell doesn't offer the "data day pass" ($2.99 for 20 MB/24 hour access) that Rogers offered and I did want the option of being able to get non-WIFI data from time to time. I am finding not having a data connection full time (i.e. driving/out of WIFI range) a bit of a frustration, such that I am thinking of getting a monthly no-contract data plan for awhile. The best option for me to do this, from what I've researched so far, is Virgin - same coverage area as Rogers, PAYG voice plans and no contract data plans, all with very competitive pricing.

I believe the warehouse is in Indianapolis (where my N1 shipped from). It took about 2 days to ship to me in Calgary (non-engraved).

Note that with Virgin, you currently cannot use prepaid service with an HSPA phone. They currently have a deal on now that, if you switch to them, they'll give you a free SIM and wave the activation fee on any myPlan.

I am sure you will love your new toy. I ordered my unengraved model Wednesday afternoon of last week, and received it Friday morning here in Calgary.

I went for the AWS band phone, however, so I could sign up with Wind Mobility and their relatively low priced unlimited data plan.

This really is an impressive phone.

Congrats on your new toy, Bob.

I started the order process and noticed they'll Fedex it overnight to a US location. Since I'll be in NYC for the next long w/e, I'll have it sent to the hotel and thus no Cdn taxes will be due.

holy jeez.. in 11 hours (8pm - 7am) it has made it from Indianapolis to Hamilton, Canada overnight (DHL delivery). Seeing that the workday hasn't even started yet I might even get it today.

I also got the engraved version.

If I do get it today (I ordered it yesterday late afternoon) that would be less than 1 business day.

I also purchased the desktop dock for the phone. The benefit to this dock vs the cheaper third party models is that this one charges by just contacts on the bottom, rather than having to put the phone on the microUSB port. It also uses bluetooth to connect to the dock if you use the speaker jack on the dock.
