GLEE: Christmas Album... surprisingly... amazing!

Just for the fun of it I bought Glee's Christmas Album. Surprisingly, the album is very charming. The sound arrangement are nice, recording quality is quite good (although definitely not reference), but most surprisingly they CAREFULLY use Melodyne and TASTEFULLY use Autotune !!!. The Autotune actually enhances the song and blended tastefully as part of the arrangment. Melodyne was clearly used but very sparingly (as sparingly as Rod Stewart's American Songbook V) and the engineer actually use the Melodyned voice as the main focus but use the less (or un-)fixed recording as the source of the reverb and multitap echo making the recording to be very thick and warm.

For a "modern" Xmas album, I highly recommend this recording especially track 2, Deck the Halls.

Glee: The Music, Volume 4... another pleasant surprise!

Having received the Volume 4 preview CD, I get the chance to listen to some songs and compared them directly to the TV-series version.

The biggest difference is in the song "Sway" which was autotuned to death on the TV presentation. It is not the case with the CD version.
"I Wanna Hold Your Hand", "Lucky" is also almost completely free from autotune.

Overall, I'm loving the new "trend" of using less Autotune (and when used, usually blending it as part of the arrangement -- the way it's supposed to) and skillful and subtle use of Melodyne. Clearly a major departure from the previous Glee albums.

Do you know if the version released on the album is the same as the version available on iTunes the day after the show airs? What I tend to do is if a song stays with me during the next day, I'll buy it from iTunes that afternoon. I don't like all the songs on each episode.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question. I only buy CDs and if I need to, then I convert them to mp3. ITMS bitrates are too low to my liking even if it's free.
