I dont watch the channel that much but I did notice recently they changed their bugs to G4 instead of G4TechTV ... dont they have to apply at the CRTC for a name change? (searched but didnt find it)

I don't think so. The only reason why "TechTV" was still in the name at all was that the other companies that owned part of it didn't want it to be renamed when it was first switched to G4 in the US. That was also when Leo Laporte still had his show on the channel.

In my opinion going from G4Techtv to G4 Canada is a rebranding and should have been approved by the CRTC ... especially if they are a class A specialty channel. Even in their license renewal and recent CTRC filings they are still identified as G4Techtv.

I see the CRTC has recently questioned them about their content (ie The Office).

Clearly Rogers is asking for a blank check to do whatever they want with the license. At the same time nobody can apply for a tech channel license since they still own the license. It like having your cake, eating it and still having it. And the sick part is that the CRTC is gonna go along with this whole travestie. Am really in the wrong line of work I think am gonna start asking for all sorts of TV license with the right words dropped in the right ears I might just hit the jackpot!

Its crazy ... on tomorrow's schedule I counted 7 hours of shows that would fall into category 7 ... same thing for the following 2 days. They are obviously not following their license agreement as they're surpassing the 15% of weekly allotment to cat 7 programming (would equal 3 and a half hours a day).

I think this happened a few months ago. I'm pretty disappointed though. It's on shaky legs as far as a channel with Canadian content goes, and I think it only has the Electric Playground shows and Reviews on the Run plus the in-betweens to count towards Canadian content. Other than those, I don't really see much of a reason for the channel to stay around. Without Call for Help or The Lab, which I think were our Canadian flagship shows, or any new show similar to those, it's only a matter of time it collapses under its own weight. And AOTS, well, anytime Canada is mentioned at all, it seems it is in the way of snide remarks.

Wish there was a channel that had shows on new or upcoming electronics, games, and software. Maybe some news on the tech, gaming, etc.

Call it DH Canada or something, maybe put a show with a guy named Leo or even Hugh. Maybe this is just crazy talk though.

I used to watch AOTS a lot, when Olivia was there,
now not so much, still like the beginning of the show but very seldom watch more than 15 min.
Used to watch Call for Help a lot also, leaned quite a b it from that show, actually even was on the air once for the fun of it with Leo and Amber,

Question about my router knocking my laptop off wifi all the time,
they said it was defective, I think it was a virus in the old laptop. using xp
still have the router, works fine. Cfor Help was a fun little show to watch
but the Lab I lost interest, when Amber wasnt there well I lost interest in that show also.

This channel used to be great when it had Call for Help from San Fransisco but a failing company bought it out, and fired most of the staff.
The show was called The ScreenSavers, it was on TechTV at that time and it was great. That channel went downhill very fast when G4 took it over ... that's when I cancelled my subscription.

I'm interested in technology content in general not ONLY games ... if I want video games I will play them not watch other people play ... totally useless channel.

Great channel if you're a mindless 7 year old kid I guess.

Leo Laporte hosted both Call For Help and The ScreenSavers on TechTv, most of the time anyways.

At one time Chris Pirillo hosted CFH. I think that is when they were doing TechLive, and a 90 minute ScreenSavers.

Some time after Leo left G4-TTV in the US, they resurrected Call For Help, this time in Toronto, and only for TTV-Canada and internatinoal sales, but not on G4 USA. Later they moved to Vancouver and re-named the show "The Lab with Leo".

Did you guy's know that Directv thought it was such a bad channel with no one wathing it that they dropped when their contract was due.
It's true ... Directv did drop G4 late last year. I dont think it was only due to it being a bad channel though. Years ago G4 tried to have a channel on the us satellites but since they are owned by Comcast, it made it difficult since they are competition to Directv. The easier way to get on Directv at the time was for G4 to acquire Techtv and then to eventually transform it completely into G4.

When the contract was up in 2010 it was an easy decision for Directv to dump G4.

Funny thing about The Lab With Leo Laporte CITYTV is still milking reruns late at night probably to meet cancon. Nothing more funny and irrelevant than watching an old tech show from 2008 about Windows Vista or the first Iphone at five in the morning! lolll

Amber reviewed a website I had done for my Sister. You might remember the Yoga website. Was pretty excited about that. I even got them to sign a picture that now hangs on my wall :)

I think G4 Canada needs a new tech show as a flagship show to fill the void. Doesn't even have to be like Call For Help, but something like a magazine format that reports on industry trends.
