Is there any talk of Sirius XM bandwidth alotments from FCC and CRTC? I know that VHF has been converted to cell phone usage. Could they do the same thing in the freqency range for sat radio?

Could they add channels to their terrestrial stations without adding them to the satellites? I am assuming that adding channels to the existing satellites would be non-trivial.

Also, if you decide to add channels in new bands, you would need to make new radios.

I would rather have half as many channels with twice the bit rate. The audio fidelity on XM is very poor in my opinion. Which is why I will not pay more than $100 a year.

My understanding is there is enough allotments for four services, but only two are used.

That said, since XM and Sirius are practically the same service in the US, so they could turn one off and expand the other to it (hardware providing), or do a major re-work of both services to eliminate much of the channel duplication.
