Fujifilm today announced a new pocket sized 3D camera, due to arrive in September, which will let users record 720p 3D movies as well as capture 3D pictures.

To capture 3D images, the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera has two 3x optical zoom lenses, two 10 megapixel image sensors and a 3D processor which combines the data from the both lenses and sensors into one high resolution 3D image or movie.

To create the 3D imagery, the two lenses in the camera are set 75mm apart, about 20 per further apart than the average human eye, which Fujifilm says maximizes the impression of depth, while still producing natural-looking images.

The pictures and videos can be played back on the camera's high resolution, 3.5-inch LCD screen or on most 3D TV systems when connected via an HDMI 1.4 cable (sold separately) and you won't need special 3D glasses.

"With the launch of 3DTV systems this year from every brand, consumers are starving for 3D content. Now they can create their own 3D pictures and home movies with the FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera to enjoy with their family and friends," says Greg Poole, VP Sales & Marketing, Fujifilm Canada.

In addition to taking 3D images, the FinePix Real 3D W3 can be used as a normal 2D camera as well. On the back of the camera is a button which allows user to toggle between 2D and 3D shooting modes and playback. In addition, the camera comes with various advanced 2D modes that allow users to benefit from the twin lenses and sensors. These modes use the lenses and sensors independently as if you were shooting two different photos of the same scene at the same instant. Enjoy Tele/Wide Simultaneous Shooting to capture a close-up and a wide angle shot at the same time or 2-colour shooting to simultaneously create a Black and White and a colour photo from one press of the shutter. Consumers can also select Manual (M), Aperture (A) or Program Mode (P) for more creative control.

In addition to a 3D camera, Fujifilm announced the MyFinePix Studio Software for simple editing of 3D movies and photos and the ability to purchase 5" x 7" 3D prints taken with their 3D camera from the Fujifilm website.

The FinePix Real 3D W3 Camera will be available in Canada this September for $500.
