Freedom Mobile Customers get more Value with Freedom Wi-Fi

Freedom Mobile today announced the launch of Freedom Wi-Fi, a service that connects customers to over 65,000 Shaw Go WiFi hotspots across Western Canada. Beginning today, with this free trial, Freedom Mobile customers can supplement their mobile phone plans with access to the Freedom Wi-Fi trial. As part of the customer trial all Freedom Mobile customers on a phone plan will have access to Freedom Wi-Fi. Freedom Wi-Fi will be available on a free trial basis until March 31, 2017.

Freedom Wi-Fi is easily accessible once customers download the Freedom Wi-Fi app for iOS and Android devices. Once authenticated, customers will automatically be connected to Freedom Wi-Fi every time they're within range of a hotspot, with no need to re-register or sign in. The app will also show customers the hotspots and Freedom Mobile stores that are closest to their location.

So...how much are they going to charge when this free offer expires in March? Will it only be available on certain plans?

This has the potential to nickel and dime existing Freedom Mobile users or force them to change to certain newer plans.

Time will tell I suppose. :|

I can't imagine it being expensive. It's in their best interest to get as many people using their wifi in lieu of cellular data as much as possible anyway. They may, however, attempt to use it to lure people off of the legacy plans and onto the current plans. I can't imagine they're happy with the number of people paying under $30/month for a plan with unlimited data.

Until they build their network out as promised many times over, they should not be trying to charge like one of the big 3 or even their flanker brands. Until they accomplish the build-out, they should be continuing to offer better pricing and innovative solutions ( like the wifi option) without pretending they are one of the big boys.

At the present time, there appear to be competing plans available with superior coverage and similar (if not better) prices than Freedoms new LTE plans.

Time will tell if they succeed in attracting new customers.....the next couple of quarters should be revealing.
