Can someone recommend a good winzip alternative for compressed and .rar files? Looking for something free and won't pester you like winzip.

Best option out there s 7zip. Free and I find it has better compression then Zip or Rar.

It will open pretty well any kind of compression format. Even ISOs.

Another nice feature of 7-Zip is that it comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Pick one that matches your OS. And, yes, browsers can use 7-Zip to automatically open downloads for all file extensions 7-Zip is registered for.

Depends on what you mean by 'automatically'.

You can associate archives with 7zip it so that the file will decompress automatically when you double-click on it. Your browser or app might have settings to automatically decompress once a file is downloaded.
