Early Monday morning, Fox New's Twitter account for political news reported that U.S. President Barack Obama had been assassinated.

A total of six tweets were posted on the FoxNewsPolitics account and reporting that Obama had been shot to death in Iowa and the shooter was unknown.

In fact, President Obama was not in Iowa and was quite safe. The President is spending the July 4th holiday with his family at the White House in Washington D.C.

The messages started to appear at 2 a.m. EDT on the morning of July 4 and were up for at least two hours before they were removed. In a statement posted on its website later Monday morning, Fox News announced that its Twitter Feed had been hacked and called the tweets "malicious" and "false."
The BBC is reporting that a group identifying themselves as “The Script Kiddies” have reportedly taken responsibility for the malicious postings.

Fox's political Twitter account has more than 34,000 followers.
