In financial results released today, Shaw Communications announced it had over 910,000 customers capable of receiving high definition (HD) programming at the end of its most recent fiscal year, August 31, 2011.
It now means that just under four out of ten (39.8%) of Shaw basic cable customers now have the necessary hardware in their home to receive HD programming.
The number of HD capable cable customers increased 15% from 790,000 a year earlier.
In addition to announcing more high definition capable customers, the cable division also reported big gains in the number of households subscribing to digital cable. The number of Shaw digital cable customers now stands at 1,819,388. The percentage of Shaw Cable subscribers who subscribe to digital cable now stands at 79.5% up from 70.7% and 56.7% on August 31, 2010 and 2009, respectively.
