If you were looking to buy an electric car, Ford is working with Best Buy to make sure that charging the vehicle at home is a convenient experience. To go along with the launch of the new electric Ford Focus, the two companies have partnered up to offer a 240-volt home charging station. The charging station should work for future electric cars as well.
The actual charger can be plugged into an existing 240-volt outlet, making it easy to move. At a 32-amp maximum, the station can charge the new Focus in between three and four hours, which Ford Canada claims is half the time of competitors such as the Nissan Leaf.
The charging station is priced at $1,599, and Best Buy intends to provide a full installation service for the station through Geek Squad. "Best Buy is excited to move into this new and evolving space to offer the latest transportation technologies to our customers," says Martin Caines, director of merchandising exclusive brands and new business. "Our partnership with Ford is the first step towards being able to offer our customers in-home energy management services which will help Canadians reduce the cost of electricity throughout their homes."
