I checked Fizz and they offer the same internet speeds (30/10) as Teksavvy for only $45/month. That is a savings of over $216/year before taxes. Get this, I could increase my speed by 400% (120/20) at Fizz and still pay less than will be paying Teksavvy for 30/10.

Until I see otherwise I assume this is temporary offer or fine print and then they (Fizz) start increasing the prices.

Anyone have any reason to not jump ship from Teksavvy Cable internet to Fizz? Note where I live the cables are owned by Videotron. Fibe is on the street but I never had the line run to the house nor do I need the speeds.

For the record when I had Videotron cable internet the service was good. Same with Teksavvy.

Thanks. I am a bit confused how IVC pricing structure works. 100Mbps is $40, 60Mbps is $45 and 30Mbps is $40.

You would also think if it was wholesale price, the independents would be closer in pricing. I pay $63 for 30Mbps at Teksavvy.

Been reading posts about throttling issues with of some of the wholesalers. I guess that is how they can sell for less. Also, it seems that some ISPs have murky throttling rules. IVC says in their TOS,

we are slowing down the non-real-time FTP (File Transfer Protocols) including but not limited to using the Bit Torrent protocol during the peak hour from 6:30pm to 10.30pm EST

They also may limit your unlimited downloads.

if any excessive or malicious activities that may harm IVC’s network are detected, IVC may suspend their service or limit the speed without any notice in advance

We are a household of 6 and hit 1GTB/month consistently. That is 4K TV, Discord, 2 VPN connections for work, Facetime and 2 MS Teams connections for school. FTP and BT are rarely used here so I am not concerned with those.

Anyway thanks again for mentioning this. It has made me revaluate our internet and the risks with some of these newer companies.

It is done. I am now running on Fizz. I doubled my speed and I pay $15/month less. No contract, no up front fees.

I had some issues signing up with Fizz initially due to their system rejecting my credit card. Once that was sorted out I was able to book the technician visit 2 days later in the evening (since we are working from home). Hardest part was correctly entering the long default wifi password correctly. :)

The Fizz modem/router has an unusual form factor, being a rectangular cuboid. I initially kept the Fizz router functions enabled but I was only getting about 50% of the advertised speeds. Speeds tests were also fluctuating a lot.

I disabled the Fizz router and patched in my pair of Dark Knights to the Fizz modem. Speeds immediately exceeded the advertised speed by about 10% and speed tests were stable.

As soon as I had stable internet I called Teksavvy to cancel. They were polite as usual. Over the last 12 years I can only recall having to call once with an issue. I had no complains other than I switched due to the pricing. What surprised me is the rep said that since I was a long time customer I could have received a better deal if I had called. Not sure if that is true. Or if they could have doubled my speed while reducing my bill. I assumed Teksavvy did not do these side-deals. I am not a fan of that practice.

As for my previous comments on throttling, is seems only the top 2 tier of speeds are impacted by this policy. But I will keep an eye on it regardless. With 6 of us in the house (4 kids) we burn through a lot of bits. We average about 1TB per month using Netflix, Disney, Crave, Prime, YouTube and Facetime, Teams etc.

That sums it up very well.I did the same thing lately,switched from Teksavvy to Fizz.I was kinda sad to dish out teksavvy.I had called them two months ago and they said it was not in there policy to match other providers.However when I called to cancel,They offered me a $10 a month rebate but told them it was to late.My son is with Fizz,likes it but says your basically on your own when you have glitches.Teksavvy on the other hand,had A+ Service.
