My 50 inch Toshiba is arriving on Jan 3 I want to know in advance what
type of hookups I should get. Should I use the s video cable to hookup my DVD or should I use the component video cable ,which will give me the best picture? I do not have a surround sound reciever if that makes a difference. Could someone give me settings for contrast, brightness etc.
Just to get me started I heard that the factory settings could cause
the screen to burn in. Model # is 50H82 paid $2500 at future shop is that a fair price compared to the rest of Canada.

toddb, welcome to the forum.

1. Component cables provide a better picture from a DVD player. I recommend the "Gold Ends" from Radio Shack (~$30), or perhaps the AR cables for about $50. There are others as well, but most people say it's not necessary to buy "monster" cables or any other expensive cables for $100+, unless that makes you feel more comfortable.

2. Check out this link on --> What you need to do to your new HDTV

While you're in the FAQ section, check out the other FAQs, as they can be helpful for those new to HDTV.

We're lots of newbies on here. Read some of the Toshiba threads that mention newbie issues and you'll see most of the stuff that you're likely to encounter or become befuddled by.

I bought Monster component cables for my DTV and DVD boxes.
