One of my 830's updated over night from version 79.18 to 81.16 , just says security and stability improvements in the release notes
Shaw Direct probably received a bad batch of hard drives. It wouldn't be the first time it has happened. (WD and IBM have both had similar issues but not recently. IBM no longer makes hard drives since it happened.) Rather than testing existing drives or purchasing new ones, I wouldn't be surprised if Shaw Direct was getting rid of them through attrition. They should be doing more, like negotiating with the supplier to replace the bad drives but it may be that the drives were purchased in a large lot with no warranty in order to save costs. A reputable company would be disposing of bad merchandise and sourcing a better replacement. Since this is not a safety issue there is no mandate to do so.We have 5 830s and have had 8 hard drive failures since we received them new from SD in May 2023.
