This week FileMaker announced it is now shipping FileMaker Pro 10, an updated version of its popular database software for the Mac.

The most noticable difference in version 10 is a new user interface which features a redesigned and customizable Status Toolbar. The new toolbar is similar to browser toolbars and that places commonly used features in more accesssible locations resulting in more streamlined navigation and better workflow.

In addition to a new user interface other major new features include Saved Searches and Script Triggers.

Saved searches lets users to name and save a set of specific searches. For example, if you want to create a find request for customers in California who have spent more than $1,000 in the past year, but have not ordered in the last three months, FileMaker Pro will save the search so you can access it over and over again in the future.

Script Triggers allow users and developers new options for automating tasks. Triggers let you specify when to run a script based on timing or whenever users take a specified action in Browse Mode or Find Mode, such as clicking in a field or exiting a viewing mode. FileMaker Pro comes with 12 ready-to-use Script Triggers (five object-based and seven layout-based).

FileMaker Pro 10 is available for U.S. $299. Previous users can upgrade for $179. Advanced and server editions are also available for developers.
