Ericsson announced today that it has signed a four-year agreement as the sole vendor for EastLink's wireless networks, using HSPA+ and next generation technologies.

Ericsson, whose equipment handles almost 85 percent of all mobile calls in Canada, says it will deploy technology which supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE for Eastlink.

The move follows Eastlink's announcement last month that it would launch service in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in 2012.

The country’s largest privately owned cable company won 19 licences in the 2008 Advanced Wireless Spectrum auction which covered areas of Atlantic Canada, Northern and Southern Ontario and Grand Prairie at a cost of $25 million.
