I am a basic cable customer of Eastlink.
In Halifax a basic cable subscriber cannot receive HD unless you rent A DVR.I do not need a DVR and feel that Eastlink should be providing a STB that will process HD without a DVR capable box. Other cable services in this country provide such service,why not Eastlink? Several calls to customer service keep stalling as to when we can receive HD BOXES as they try to push sales for the rental of a DVR with no option to purchase as well.In Halifax we do not have the benefit of DTA HD thus we must have cable or satellite. Thus the local cable company are able to hold us "hostage" to generate maximum revenues from the consumer. I think it is poor service.

I'm pretty sure they have just an HD box without the DVR capabilities. On their website if you click on "Digital Cable" on the left menu and scroll down to where you choose your box in small print it says " HDTV box (9.95/mnth) is not available in NFLD and Labrador" so it sounds like they do have one. Friends of ours have HD through Eastlink and I'm pretty sure they don't have a DVR. Maybe they've changed it recently but if so then they should update the website.

They do have one, a friend was telling me about it, it's called the DCX700. They started offering it to the university students first. I think it's only good if they've done the digital overlay so obviously it depends on the amount of digital coverage. I assume the fact that they're not promoting it has to do with some sort of limited supply.

Hi
I looked into getting my mom HD this summer. at that time they did not offer the non pvr HD unit.
I know eastlink used to offer a $9.95 unti as well as the PVR 14.95 unit,
My info is about 4 months old so perhaps they are once again offering the non pvr unit. a quick look at their website seems to indicate they only offer the $14.95 box for HD.

Yep, yr correct Maritme 555; they will try to entice you with a special offer of 10.00 dollars for twelve months but then the regular price of a total of 19.95/month kicks in. I do not need a DVR and I suspect that some people do not know that they should be able to have HD service without an expensive DVR;

cheers
