Last day to buy E.T.

At least it stops the commercials
I had bought the DVD a while back, but just had the opportunity too see it. I have the 1996 limited numbered edition LaserDisc box set too (No. 514 in case anyone is interested: The area code for Montreal, where I was born and first saw the movie. :) ). That is the original 1982 version (which is on the second DVD).

The interesting thing is the Spielberg interview back then talked about the poossibility of this 20th anniversary edition, and how the magic of CGI would allow him to make a few tweaks. He said the worst mistake he ever made was the scene near the end when the van was abandoned in the playground, and all the men come running up with guns drawn. He said he would love to digitally remove those guns. With the 2002 edition, he got his wish. They are replaced by walkie talkies. Although, they seem to be handled very oddly.
