CTV and Comcast International Media Group (CIMG) announced this week that it will replace Star! Television with a new Canadian E! television Channel beginning on November 29th.

Previously E! Canada had operated in Canada from 2001 to 2009 under the ownership of Canwest but was forced to shut down when Canwest encountered its financial difficutlites which eventually led to it filing for bankruptcy protection.

Programming on the new digital specialty channel will consist of many E! Channel U.S. programs such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Chelsea Lately, The Soup and E! True Hollywood Story.

To meet Canadian content requirements, CTV says half the programming will be Canadian, including 40 per cent during prime time. The station says it will provide more programming details in coming weeks.

The standard definition entertainment channel will be available immediately in the more than 6.2 million Canadian households that currently air Star!

"We're delighted to bring E! back to audiences in Canada as we enter this new partnership with CTV," added Duccio Donati, Executive Vice President, CIMG.
