Here is your chance to tell SC what features you would like to see in future versions of the DVR530HD.

Not all features are possible but may be in future products.

Please post any ommisions below.

You may vote for several items, but may only vote once - Vote carefully.

Remember, these are potential future features and not related to the current feature set and any current bugs.

Bug fix before anything..... Get them working on fixing the current stuff before adding new features.

But let's see a searchable guide then followed by name recording.

DD- Is this Poll really going to make it to Motorola/Starchoice?

Cheers

I would like to be able to output 480i over the DVI connection. My DVD player can do 480i over HDMI.

I know 480i is not in the DVI specs, but some DVD players are now able to do it.

With 480i over DVI, I could use the better de-interlacing, scaling and noise reduction algorithms for standard SD signals of my outboard scaler.

Exemple: combo Aloglith Mosquito + Algolith Dragonfly, using the new Realta HQV chip. Will bring a standard SD signal near HD quality. This scaler can accept 480i over HDMI/DVI.

My only option to do this now with the530 is to SDI mod my 530. But I would prefer using 480i directly over DVI.

What is the point of the UP/Down button stopping at Locked out channels? - very annoying while trying to channel surf! I read that older SC receivers do not exhibit this bad habit.
Just create a Favorites List....I did and just called it SUB. I went through and filtered everything out I don't sub to...

I have not purchased the unit yet (waiting until the bugs gets sorted out and waiting to see what *C will do with their HD lineup), but for me, these would be a big benefit:

1) Enhanced Guide: This would include searchable guide, named based recording and Tivo like features (always record new episodes of Lost for example). It would be nice if you could tell it to only consider certain channels when doing this as well, so the user would not get an SD version instead of an HD version. The guide should also have more than 2 or 3 days of data and should include descriptions for ALL shows (as available). The guide on the 500 is REALLY lacking in this fashion currently and I'm sure the 530 is the same.

2) Dual Recording. This is a MUST. There is no reason why it cannot record two things at once with two lines coming into the unit IMO. Obviously you would not be able to watch anything while it was recording two things, but it would be nice if the unit recorded two things at once and allowed you to watch something you have already recorded.

3) Some way to export what you have recorded via the USB port so you can keep a hard copy version. I doubt that will come anytime soon, but it would be an excellent feature.

That's my wishlist.

I have a few suggestions for navigation features:

1. I would like the ability to go to a specific point in a recording by time.

i.e. Press "Info" and then select a new "2 Go To" menu item and then enter 120 which would take me 1 minute 20 seconds (or 120 seconds whichever is more intuitive) into the recording. No need to fast forward, skip etc.

2. What if we had a feature where if you are watching a live/recorded show and I press 10 (1 then 0 buttons) and then the Skip Backward button, the show would Skip Backwards 100 seconds (Assuming the default 10 sec Skip Backward). This allows you to for example skip an advert where you are normally pressing the Skip Forward button 6 times, press 6 then Skip Forward. It would be limited to 99 auto presses as 3 numbers would select a channel.

I don't think that these would be that difficult to implement? What do others think?

My Suggestions:
1) Fix the bugs
2) Implement the ATSC firmware (since the hardware portion was already designed and built for Voom)
3) Implement any other firmware upgrades requiring minimal resources & time
4) Launch the DSR 500 replacement unit

THEN stop: drive the price on both units as low as possible

5) & most importantly - get working with the Ucentric group NOW on the Whole Home Server/Client project ala DTV and the others who are already onboard. No reason for SC to fall further behind the market.

I will list some features that I would like to see in order of importance to me.

I think I got really spoiled with my Scientific Atlanta PVR because it had the ability to search by show title. I never realized how much I depended on that feature until I switched to the 530. I am hoping that the DSR530 adopts this feature in the future. It allows you to check what stations are showing a particular show for a given day. IE:

CHANNEL 233 LOST 08:00 PM
CHANNEL 263 LOST 09:00 PM
CHANNEL 433 LOST 11:00 PM
CHANNEL 463 LOST 11:00 PM

Sometimes you may not even know if a show will be aired, and you can easily check using the title feature if the show will even be on at all that day.

Right now with the 530 the easiest way to do this is to logon to the internet and search for it using one of the TV guide sites.

Another feature I would like to see is TIME REMAINING while viewing a show. If it is only 10 minutes, I might stay and watch the rest. If it is 30 minutes I might want to go to bed.

In the RECORDING EVENTS (OPTIONS - 5) it would be nice if the machine picked up the title of the show instead of just the channel and time of the show. It makes it difficult to know if you already have selected a show for recording. Even the INFO button does not do anything on that screen.

Dual Recording would be nice.

It would be nice to have a feature that could jump to the end of the recording in case you wanted to jump to the credits - or to confirm that you have recorded the entire show.

I LOVE the fact that the machine remembers your position that you left off at in all recordings. That is one thing that the Scientific Atlanta PVR did not do. If you stopped a recording and started playing another recording, you would lose your place.

I would pick up on this as well, especially when theres a conflict between timers.
It only gives the station, date and duration... well I can't guess what show it was supposed to record. So I need to cancel timer2 go check timer 1 and then if I want to have timer 2 go back to the guide and look for the show and then replace timer 1...
This needs to be fixed. Hopefully soon. :)

I would also ask for another feature.

An option to turn off live buffer recording when the unit is in standby or shut down.
There's really no need imo to have the unit continue to record life buffer if I am not watching it anyway.
There's always the option to record the remaining show if I need to go and come back in 20 minutes.

I also never felt the need to rewind to the beggining of a show when I turn the receiver on.
Usually first thing I do is to seach the guide for any show I am interested.

So give us an option to turn live buffer off when in standby. it saves energy and preserves the hard disk.

I have a sugestion for a future version.

I like to use the guide to search for shows to record (who doesnt?) and sometimes I can be looking at 3 days from now.

Sometimes it happens when I am browsing that I find a show to record but a timer conflict happens.

The window opens, requires my input and once I am done click exit/go away and I am back to the channel watching tv.

Could this be changed to going back to the guide to the previous position instead of exiting the guide and back to channel viewing?

It's a pain having to go to restart the procedure again.

Mid June is quickly approaching. It will be quite interesting to read about the bug fixes. I will keep my fingers crossed for all who have invested in the 530. If bugs are truly fixed I will then purchase one too.
