New HDDSR605 Just received from Dell; now what?

OK Folks,

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

My new 605 just arrived from Dell this evening.

It's going to replace the 505 currently connected (via component cables) to my 34" Toshiba CRT HD set that only has DVI and component inputs.

I'm assuming that I can swap the 505-605 using existing component and audio cables connected to theTV.

I then have to contact Shaw's business office to authorise the new 605.

I also have to request the free dish upgrade they offered a couple of weeks ago as well as the $125 credit.

Am I missing anything?

Currently I am using the advanced channel map and hope to keep that.

One question regarding simsubs.

Currently because of my remote location and negotiation with SD management I have no simsubs.

A poster today on the SD simsub thread mentioned that having a new lnb installed caused him to lose the simsub exemption. Any ideas about this?

ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated. I never know as much as I may think I do!

When you are updated to the G1 channel map, the HD channels will appear beginning at 001 (classic) or 500 (advanced); I was on the advanced lineup previously, but for some reason, the agent the installer spoke to insisted on reverting to the classic lineup.

Regardless, the existing English HD lineup (without the G1 signals) will appear beginning at 250 (classic) or 300 (advanced), with the US networks appearing from 280-284 (classic) or 320-324 (advanced); these feeds will be subject to simsubs.

The US networks feeds within the new HD lineup (058-062 classic, not sure of advanced) are not subject to simsubs at this time, though local simsubs are probably coming in the future.

still no word on these $69 deals near a major city? Sometech....nothing new? I find it hard to believe that possibly hundreds of these were just pulled off retailers shelves and sunk to the bottom of Lake Ontario.... :)

The 605 $49.99 refurbs are around

Hi TV Master, No idea what the talk about $69 605s is about but the dealer here in Elliot Lake had the 605 refurbs on sale for $49.99 during a street festival here last Saturday.

Interestingly we chatted briefly to the dealer's helper and she told us they have to changeover every single dish in their territory. They also had the 600s and 630s available. However, they only had the March 2013 list brochures available!

No, I didn't buy any!

I had already just managed to get a brand new 605 from Dell.ca for $75 net.
I'm a bit leery of trusting refurbs in spite of the warranty.

Kidding apart though, I wonder if dealers who have the refurbs are allowed to sell them without installation on an existing or new account?

Sorry - I failed to clarify

The Shaw dealer had an official Shaw Direct promotion stand - SD umbrella canopy, etc.
We just did not bother asking what the terms and conditions were re the $49.99 refurb 605s as we had no real interest in them.

There's no terms or conditions on the refurb 605s. They are retail and can be sold either on new accounts or to existing customers.

As simple as said, anybody can buy and use them, so long as they have an existing setup and account, or are going to set up a new account and have a dish installed.
