Could someone indicate the source and meaning of letter "S" displayed intermittently
but typically in the top left corner of the screen on the Shaw satellite programming?

That most likely isn't something the receiver is doing - could it be your TV? What does the S look like? All of the receiver/software based on-screen text will have the dark background with white text.

For those who want to see it:
The full screen image has the "S" in the left top corner
the second one has just 3/4 portion of the letter S on white oval

It's a little hard to see because of the background, but that looks like the Skype logo and the interview is being done over Skype.

Yes that is the Microsoft Skype logo. A lot of tv networks use Skype to interview the mayor or doctors or politicians. Nothing new here Skype's been around for ages.

This question also is not Shaw specific. This logo can be seen on Any provider when someone is watching this specific tv channel and specific tv show.
