The Hub

Just wondering if anyone knows if this channel will be coming to Canada? Since Discovery Kids was replaced by Nickelodeon using the licence for YTV OneWorld, I would assume it's American replacement The Hub might be brought to Canada using the YTV POW! licence, anyone else see this happening?

I see the discoverykids channel in the US is now called HUB. Are there any plans in changing it up here.And hello to everyone

Discovery Kids Canada & Nickelodeon Canada are two separate channels, so I don't understand the reason for the link to the thread on Nick Canada?!

Discovery Kids Canada shut down but the license is still active (it was not given back to the CRTC), which means Corus can use it to launch another channel if they wanted to. Nick Canada was launched using a separate license and has nothing to do with Discovery Kids other then the fact it took the spot on the dial previously occupied by DK.

True, but they have the same owners and even though it is a separate licence, Nick pretty much replaced Discovery Kids. They could use the same licence, but does it fit the programming of the Hub? I think the YTV POW! licence would better fit the programming from the Hub.

On a side note i'm still waiting for the Canadian version of Disney XD aka Family Extreme.

Anyone know of any plans to launch either or both of these channels in Canada?

My gues is this:

Discovery Kids(the old one) or YTV POW will launch in Canada but under the name HUB Canada.

Depending on Astral Media "mood" I see them(and thats "if")I se them launch Family Extreme as Disney XD. In alll honesty I can se Family changing to Disney Canada.

On a ide note is just me or in the last few years has the Canadian TV channels(the ones that US versiobs) changed their names to reflect the US ones.

I agree, Family has had the same name for ages and has built it into a strong name and aren't going to change it and have no reason whatsoever to change it. Heck, to change it they would have to pay Disney megabucks for naming rights which would simply be a waste of their money.

You sound so sure of your self, care to explain why you think a re-brand will never happen??

How can you have Playhouse Disney and not have Disney Channel, Family sticks out like a sore thumb and the two don't go together?! Also, Family needs a refreshing, if they don't change the name then at least come up with a new look- its had the same boring logo for ages.

One final point, Family is a stupid name for the channel since it implies its a 'family oriented' channel when technically it isn't since most of its programming is from... you guessed it Disney Channel!

And as far as i'm concerned, Disney programming is family oriented. One thing is for sure, Family should stick to family movies instead of airing movies like Men In Black and then censoring foul language, which ironically still appears via closed captioning even when censored. Family wont rebrand to Disney Channel for the simple fact that Family channel pulls programming from other sources such as MTV Networks, movie studios other then Disney. If they rebranded, a condition would be that they can only pull programming from the Disney library and air their own original programming.

How so? TSN hasn't Rebrand itself after all these years? While other Sports channels have, so anythings possible. Not say it WILL happen just saying its a "possiblility"

Other than The Score, what sports channel has rebranded itself? I can't think of any and I don't count Sportsnet going from CTV Sportsnet to Roger's Sportsnet as it's still Sportsnet.
