I'm a fairly new Shaw TV subscriber. I have an HDPVR box (the newer one needed to get NFL Sunday Ticket). I just have Basic Cable w/ HD Plus. They have the box set to be all digital, so any of the analog channels I don't pay for (Tier 1, 2, 3) don't come in on the box of course.

My question is.....can I call Shaw and ask that my Basic cable channels come in analog instead of digital? I'm not saying I want that, but just curious if it's even an option to go back to analog once they have it set to digital for all channels?

when you say "your digital box doesn't have an analog tuner", you mean the one I have specifically (the NFL sunday ticket one)? Cause I used to have an older version where analog channels came in.

analog tuner - this would be built into the TV yes?, so basically cable straight from wall to TV?

Correct the newer PVRs don't have an analog tuner built in. The Older Motorola DCT 6412 and 6416 have the analog tuner. The DCT 3416 did not come with an analog tuner.

Changing the channel map over to the analogue on an all digital DCT would cause the analogue channels to not come through & would not bring through the security camera channel. To do that you would definitely need a DCT with a built in analogue tuner (older models that magnet mentioned).

John: Older DCTs have an analogue tuner that can bring in analogue channels as well as the digital version of those channels if flipped to the all digital map. Newer terminals only can get the all digital map and analogue channels only come through in digital format.

thanks. I was thinking of buying my friends Pace Tahoe, which has an analog tuner. When I call Shaw to add to my account, will they default the map to ananlog or digital? Can I specifically ask for the analog map, without sounding crazy?

john, I would still like to know why you would want to switch from all digital to analogue/digital. If you do indeed live in an apartment then I can kind of understand why, but even then if the digital box has an analogue/digital tuner in it you would still get the security camera if the box was on an all digital lineup. Other than that there really is no reason to change over (unless your cable feed hasn't been filtered and you're getting channels that you aren't paying for!).

The TV Listings channel is typically only available when you have an analogue tuner (as the DCT has a built in listings you wouldn't need this channel). I believe all other channels are duplicated on the digital only map with the exception of the security camera channel as this is typically an in house camera that almost always only outputs in analogue format and not digital.
@johnnucleo: as for getting onto the analogue version of the map in an all digital area they may start you out on this but there are processes run every so often to move customers off this map over to the digital version in all digital areas.
