Hi, I've been reading threads on this site and others for about a week now regarding adding an external hard drive to Rogers' Motorola DCT6416 III. I can only find info regarding the Shaw DCT6416 boxes and Rogers SA8000 boxes, and threads saying that some providers have the eSATA ports locked.

Has anyone succesfully added an external HDD to Rogers DCT6416 III? I called Rogers for info and they didn't even know I had a Motorola, they thought I had a Scientific Atlantic box. She was kind of debating with me til I said politely "umm, the box says Motorola"! They could not offer me info as to whether they even offered a PVR expander, they said go see your local Rogers. No disrespect but the local office has seemed a lot less knowledgeable in the past. My local Staples Business Depot and other computer stores do not carry eSATA external HDDs (or enclosures) in stock (only USB 2.0). So I'd have to order one online, hence my hesitation.
Otherwise I could have done trial and error.

So if anyone has added an external HDD to this box on Rogers:

-What are you using for HDD
-What ports are unlocked for the DCT on Rogers?
-Any special set up procedure?
-Did you lose your recordings on the internal HDD?

I'm in New-Brunswick if that makes a difference, any information would be greatly appreciated.

P.S: Why so much info on SA8000 series with Rogers, and so little on the Motorola DCT6416 III? Does Rogers only offer it in a few areas, or did I get an old clunker that nobody wants? lol.

Thanks,

I've moved your thread to the Rogers Atlantic forum. As soon as this option is available on Rogers Atlantic, there will be threads on the topic here, but as of this time, the firmware is not available with Rogers Atlantic.

DCT6416-Esata-rogers confirmation

Hi all, I've been waiting patiently to see a confirmation in here that the esata port has been enabled after news I got from Rogers.

Now I spent about 1 hour on the phone with Rogers about 2-3 months ago, and would not hang up until I got a confirmation on whether or not this would ever happen. After the tech I spoke with spoke with someone from atlantic, he told me over the next 2 months that there would be 4 separate updates, and 1 of them would be enabling the esata port. This was the first tech to not shrug off the question, he was genuinely interested to find the answer. After reading a post from Nick on how to get to the "interface-port status" screen I checked mine today and everything is enabled except smart card, rf bypass, and MoCA Auth. Internal and external are enabled, but is that for the hdds? I don't see anything about HDD or esata.

As I am waiting for it to be enabled before I buy an external hdd, can someone tell me which option I have to look at to see if esata is enabled?
Whether it be tomorrow or another few months down the road...
Thanks.

E-HDD info

i donno i am waiting on this myself and from what i have found out rogers has officially enabled the port but are still using out dated firmware (version 16.53 or 16.55 i think) and in that version of the firmware the HDD space allotment has a max of 160GB hence the box will see your hard drive under the HDD tab in the Motorola menu (power then select) but just cannot use it as the max space is already meet... what they need to do is go to version 16.76 or higher for the support of external HDD's (reference link http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Firmware_and_Software#DCT-64xx_Phase_III ) which with the present roll out of SDV you will most likely see them do in the next little while as version 18.77 adds an SDV diagnostic menu which will most likely be needed for proper trouble shooting on their end. Hope this info helps you better understand whats up and as with all service providers the best way to get hings done is to call and ask to have a complaint sent off also get your friends and their friends calling, the more complaints the better!!!

God i hope i spelled everything rite lol

P.S. All the info i am listing here comes from 45 seconds of google :p
