Got back from work yesterday and found my HD box with no display, when it usually shows the time, which is the way I have it set up. Blank. I turn the TV on and I eventually get the light grey service menu screen and it asks me for my PIN. I enter it and the picture comes on. But no menu and no guide available. And it takes time to switch from one channel to another (~5 secs). And no sound from the TV speaker. My car pool buddy tells me he gets still gets sound through his HT setup although he gets none via TV speaker...Doing the power disconnect reboot doesn't change anything.

Called Rogers Tech Support. If you want to talk to an actual person, it automatically sends a re-authorization (which never hit the box) and then tells you that because of technical difficulties, tech support is not avaliable. Call back later.

Called my French buddies, got an actual person and found out Rogers updated the DCT6200 to correct the sound off/not authorized problem and it screwed everything up. Said it would be 24 - 48 hours before it would be cleared up. He said this only affects DCT6200 boxes. Problem is, with no sound and no access to the menu to clear the problem, I'm stuck with video only until they send the fix.

As reported in another thread, I've had issues many times before where the sound would be muted when I turn the box on. Adjusting the Menu, Sound option, back and forth between fixed and variable clears it up. A minor annoyance, but one my wife couldn't fix on her own. The odd channel also comes up as unauthorized (like Channel 7 earlier this week), but if you stay on that channel long enough, it comes back.

Exact same thing happened to my DCT6200 as well yesterday afternoon -- I thought it was just a fluke.

I did a full reset and after it redownloaded its software, it eventually starting working normally again a short time later.

Here in Dieppe as well, you loose access to all the SDV channels when the guide isn't present -- so almost all the French channels disappeared.

I did a reset where you unplug the box for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Is this what you call a full reset?

But it didn't start downloading for me last night. And my SD is still working as I could watch ATV on Channel 8 (and Setanta on 429).

There was still nothing showing this AM on the front of the box. I will do another power reset when I get home.

What I did was unplug it, then while holding down the Power and Menu buttons on the front panel, plugged it back in. Then after releasing the two buttons, I selected "n dl" using the up/down buttons and then pressed Select.

Then it erases all the software, searches the cable network for the frequency with the software on it, then starts downloading it. Takes about 20-30 minutes.

Now I wouldn't recommend other people do that... because you could end up with a brick.

I follow your multiple step reset procedure. Don't know if I want to try it though. Don't want to brick the box - I just bought it. Thanks anyway.

I've got the cable temporarily split and coming directly into my LED TV Antenna input sans box, SD all the way, 52 glorious channels. Man, it's hard to watch straight SD on a 46" screen...

Patience, Virtue. Friday 4:44 PM - everything's working again. They rolled the software back to the previous version. The sound & not authorized issues are still there, as I had to fix as per other thread. Thought it was going to take longer.

Fix for the issue

Fix: All you have to do is unplug your power to the box, wait 20 sec and plug back in. After about 3 min the time will come on and then all is ok. issue has been fixed since just before noon.

Yeah. Sometimes the power cycle thingy works, but sometimes it doesn't. And if it don't, you then have to wait 5 minutes or so until the menu becomes available to get to the sound option. Plus the guide needs to download again, which takes another 10 minutes or so.

I find the Menu, Sound fix quicker and more reliable.
