Discovered that having the digital box at the head-end of the cable prevents the VCR from seeing the analog cable signal.

Does the Dbox support pass through? If so, how does one enable it?

And while talking about it, what is that small loop back cable in the back running from one RF port to another?

Can I use that to connect the VCR?

It allows you not only to record analogue channels at any time, but also digital channels provided you're not wanting to watch another digital channel at the same time as that recording.
