I know the Shaw DCTs with ethernet ports can be used as cable modems, should Shaw ever wish to activate this feature.

With more and more TVs featuring ethernet ports built in and internet connectivity, is there any chance that Shaw will activate this feature?

I'm guessing Shaw will take a similar position as the cable companies back east and steer consumers into using their VOD service over other services such as Netflix.

I asked this question of a senior field tech once and he told me they will likely never activate the DOCSIS modems in the STBs as they have enough problems with the boxes already that the last thing they would want is one more thing to go wrong with them. You can always hope for this to change, just don't hold your breath.
