What is with CTV lately? None of their programming seems to be in High Def? Law and Order and Benefactor were both in SD tonight. I can't remember the last time I found something in High def on CTV!!

that's nice... but the link you posted doesn't show EVERYTHING that's in HD... IE: CSI 9 p.m. on thursday doesn't say it's in HD but it will be....

Actually, Degrassi season 4 is in TRUE HD... HD 59.94i 16x9 w/5.1 audio

I compared CSI Miami last night on CBS Hd and CTV HD (Rogers). Again, the PQ on CTVHD was inferior......not as sharp and the colours not as vibrant. In addition, the audio didn't seem to be coming from the surrounds.

I noticed this all last season and it looks like same old again for this season....Cold Case is another prime example.

Today this is a who cares issue but at some point where will be sim-subbing on the HD channels and then we will be stuck with problem Canadian HD rebroadcasts......then we will have a big problem with complaining to the Rogers CSRs because we won't have any proof....

I wish there was something we could to today to avoid this problem....the problem is coming and we can't do anything about it.....

Any ideas ?????

Umm... ?

I never watch CTVHD because their PQ sucks, their audio sucks, and their large non-transparent bug sucks.

Sometimes my girlfriend turns to CTV to watch a show or selects it for a PVR recording. I always chnge the channel to the american station or delete the recording and change it to a true HD station.

or anyone who has access to this channel should complain to CTV about the bug and the higher risk of burn in if we continue to watch it as much as they hope we will.. I wonder if it is only a matter of time before someone tries to complain about their burn in to the broadcaster or the provider itself.. it is annoying and does any channel need to have their bug at all anymore? I mean do they really think they are preventing anything by having it?

CTV Informed

Guys,

As suggested, I just sent an email to CTV Programming informing them of this thread and the fact people are deserting Canadian content for American. Now, some of you may be correct in saying "they won't care", but keep in mind their money comes from advertising revenues which will decrease with lower viewing figures.

And no, I'm not convinced anyone will listen but you gotta try, eh?

I'm not sure how wise a move that is; knowing that your potential viewers are flipping to the US version, what are you gonna do - spend a bunch of money to improve your product? Or deprive them of that option and just flip a switch and simsub EVERYTHING?

But then, like you said, what are the chances they listen to anything their viewers say?

The problem is, they're DEFINITELY not going to spend the money if they don't get the advertising revenue. So I thought it best I at least try. But I reckon in a couple of weeks I'll be on here again saying I've switched to the American channels because I'm pissed off no-one's taking any notice.

BTW, Is simsubbing a new term? What does it mean?

You guys do know that CTV is owned by Bell, right? This is why I get ticked off at Bell all the time. They are out there pushing their HDTV receivers but do nothing to improve the quality and delivery of their programming. They will simsub and then find some way to blame the CRTC rules rather than do something for their customers.

Diamond,
I completely agree with you. They push the HDTV receivers and then do nothing to improve the HDTV experience among their clients. I think that it may come from the fact that they have always been a transporter of information and have never had to really understand the end users feelings.

I watched Greys Anatomy last night on CTVHD and found the colours faded/washed out. I then checked in with the ABC version an hour later and found more saturated colours. It was the same for CSI at nine on CTV and CBS....CTVHD's colours where faded.

On the plus side CTVHD had ER in HD last night while NBCHD didn't.
