The Original Santa Claus Parade will be converted into a 2-hour national, primetime television special with broadcast partner CTV, airing Saturday, December 5 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV and CTV2. Staged in a closed set parade route, the CTV broadcast will be produced by Bell Media Studios and will adhere to local COVID-19 safety protocols. CTV made a last-minute schedule change on Thursday to drop the broadcast of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and simsub MATCH GAME at 10 PM ET instead. I can only receive Canadian channels by antenna, so that got screwed up, but fortunately I recorded the U.S. channel on my Fibe PVR. Bell never updated the CTV.ca or Fibe TV guide, but Zap2it had the correct info. Zap2it says the same thing will happen next Thursday.

A bit off topic, I have a question. CTV2 Alberta and CTV2 Atlantic are cable-only stations. Do they have simsubbing authority in their respective territories?

It used to be that they can ask for a simsub but as they are not OTA the cable/satellite company can decline the request. Things may have changed.

The short answer is no. They do not have the right to simsub or even request simsubs if no station is operating with a grade 1 or grade 2 signal contour. The long answer is that special exceptions to simsub rules have been granted and some companies just flout regulations if it is to their advantage. (Yet another reason to reduce concentration of ownership in the broadcasting industry.) The worst offender is Bell. They obtained an exception, due to technical shortcomings on their satellite equipment, allowing national simsubs on their satellite service. They appear to have perverted that exception to performing simsubs on all their services for all channels, even non-OTA channels, and performing simsubs on the feeds they provide to third parties such as cable systems.

• (b) an educational authority responsible for an educational television programming service; or

So those two stations do have the right. Services like TSN no longer have the right.

There will be schedule change for CTV for Wednesday starting on 28 Oct. CBS will move The Amazing Race to 20:00. As there is already The Masked Singer there, CTV will move TAR to 19:00, ahead CBS. The Conners, that will have been at 19:30 will be moved to 21:00, simsub ABC.
