In two separate broadcasting decisions handed down this week by the CRTC, the federal regulator approved two applications by Astral Media for new national, English-language Category 2 specialty television channels in Canada.

The new channels are Superstar, which will air romance programming and TV-Time, which will air action and adventure programming.

The following is a brief overview of each new station drawn from the respective CRTC decisions.

Superstar

Superstar will be a national English language specialty station devoted to romance programming, including relationship-themed game shows and magazine-style programs featuring romantic vacation resorts, as well as programs exploring romantic moments in people’s lives, classic romantic feature films, epic mini-series and made-for-television movies.

The commission approved TV-Time's request for authorization to offer both a standard and a high definition version of the service.

TV-Time

TV-Time will be a national English language specialty station devoted to action and adventure programming including classic westerns, rodeo and western horse shows.

The commission approved TV-Time's request for authorization to offer both a standard and a high definition version of the service.
