In a broadcasting decision handed down today, the CRTC has approved an application to add a digital television transmitter for CHCH-TV to serve London Ontario.
CHCH-TV, which is owned and operated by Channel Zero, is an independent TV station operating out of Hamilton Ontario which broadcasts local news and U.S. entertainment and late night shows such as Nightline and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The new transmitter will operate on channel 51 with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 115,000 watts (maximum ERP of 190,000 watts with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 296.5 metres).
The ruling requires the transmitter must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 31 August 2011.
