A little something to note here:
Boomerang has the same license as La Chaine Disney.
Will Corus have to apply for a new license to keep that one running or will it be downgraded to an exempt service?

Only time will tell!
I recall that Corus did apply to make La Chaîne Disney's license to operate seperatly from Boomerang at some point.

Several TV service providers will discontinue their Disney theme packs or Kids 2 theme packs on the day of the network closures, merging them with the main Kids 1 theme pack.

Hay Communications, Novus, TELUS, and SaskTel maxTV Stream (unsure about maxTV proper) are examples of this.

Why can’t Corus at least be nice & offer all 6 dying channels to all subscribers for free until D-day? Would it really kill them financially? It would offer them cross promotion with their other not-dying channels & access to eyeballs for commercials they are paid by advertisers.
That would never happen. However, Corus is offering one month free previews of the major remaining channels through participating providers - Disney Channel (Sept), YTV (Oct), Treehouse (Dec). That will have the added benefit (to Corus) of encouraging people to subscribe to the channels.

Cartoon Network used to be a major channel until YTV started adding its content last month.

And some are theorizing that Corus may indeed lose the rights to Nickelodeon USA programming by the end of the year.
No chance of seeing Nickelodeon get relaunched by someone else in Canada, the US feed is addicted to PAW Patrol, SpongeBob, movies, Friends, The Loud House, and Peppa Pig.

Meanwhile this is also going on in the US to Cartoon Network. Would Corus follow a similar route eventually?

If I had to guess, I think STACKTV will remove Disney Jr. and Disney XD on September 1, alongside being dropped from all linear TV service providers.

Corus Entertainment will have quite a hard time finding replacements to keep the number of channels at 17 on there.

Corus has plenty of channels that they could add to keep the number at 17, even higher.

I would like them to add the French channels, but they'll likely just going to add their lower priorized channels

Some other broadcasters could follow Corus' lead. Corus is consolidating content on fewer channel because it has less content. That's also true of channels from other broadcasters. For example, FXX was created to air alternate FX content. It could be argued that FXX was never needed but it did create extra carriage fees to help finance new content. Since then, new FX and FXX content has diminished to the point that only one channel is needed. It's time to shut down some zombie channels to lower costs, overhead and consumer prices. It's not just specialty channels either, CTV and CTV2 could be consolidated to provide better OTA coverage for CTV content.

CTV and CTV 2 are quite a bit overlapped in some areas

Maybe the U.S. channels need more original content to keep the Canadian incarnations necessary

US broadcasters are slowly moving all their premium content to streaming services. What's left on the network and specialty stations is mostly cheap reality programming, news and reruns. The dramatic programming that is left is scarcer and has had budgets cut so there are far fewer episodes. Maybe add to that a rerun or two of some of last year's streaming content.

Some Canadian broadcasters are licensing the rights to US streaming shows for their specialty stations. That seems to be an attempt to keep them relevant but I doubt it will work for long.

Posted July 31, 2025 - Corus Channel Turndown
Effective August 31, 2025, the following channels will no longer be offered on Optik TV:

ABC Spark
Nickelodeon
Disney Jr
Disney XD

These channels will be removed from your account and any theme packs. If you were paying for these channels as standalone channels, you will no longer be charged for them after August 31. No action is required on your part.

If you subscribe to the Disney Time theme pack, this will also be removed from your account and replaced with an alternative theme pack. No action is required on your part. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

With the discontinuation of the Disney Time theme pack, Disney Channel will be moving to either Family Time or Kids Time, depending on what TELUS decides to do.

Generation channels such as YTV and Treehouse have limited viewership. Each generation decides if they are viewing.

It's like re-releasing Snow White every 10 years to see if the audience is still there for it or not.

In the case of these channels - viewers are gone and glued to their tablets presently.

Sad times.

This part sounds like it was a copy-and-paste direct from Corus, so the list of channels that will carry the former content is probably accurate.

"The decision to sunset these channels follows a broader industry shift in how kids consume content and where families choose to watch.

While these channels will no longer be available, much of the beloved programming will continue to live on other Corus channels like Cartoon Network, Boomerang, YTV, Treehouse, and Disney Channel. We encourage customers to explore these channels for continued access to popular kids and family content."

The second sentence is inaccurate, as some acquired shows will be lost to streaming services starting September 1

I just realised that Zoo Diaries will be the final ever program to air on Nickelodeon Canada.
This is so damn cursed. I should've had hoped that they would end by showing at least one last episode of SpongeBob.
But no, they're Corus, so the channel is going to end on a show that doesn't fit the channel's demographic AT ALL.
Gosh, I'm seriously crossing my fingers that they won't threw it on YTV or Disney Channel afterwards and that they'll only keep it on the National Geographic channels.
Disney XD Canada's final ever program on the other side, will be Milo Murphy's Law, much better choice.
Hopefully Milo Murphy will be moving to Disney Channel afterwards.
