Being that I rarely poke my head into the Shaw forums, I'm a bit behind on the newer PVRs. I'm looking at grabbing a new HDPVR from Shaw, but am confused by something on their website.

I'm seeing two PVR options listed (a 500GB and a 1TB unit). The 500GB appears to be the DCX3400 I think, but the 1TB is the regular HD box with a 1TB PVR Expander hard drive. Where my confusion comes in is the fact the unit with the external 1TB drive is cheaper than the DCX3400 with the 500GB hard drive. Is there a major functional difference between the two other than internal vs. external hard drives?

Also, am I correct in that they don't do rentals anymore? Technically i'll be signing up as a new customer since I'm getting my own line/account at my house, so if there's any promotions or anything that could help drop the $300-$350 price down a bit, I'd be happy to know.

The 500GB is the DCX3400, and it has the option to purchase an expandable 1TB drive giving the customer an even greater amount of recording space. The DCX3400 itself can record up to 500GB of programs without the expander.

The Pace model listed is a "PVR Ready" device meaning you would still have to purchase the expander for the device to record programs. It is just an HD receiver without the expander.

If you have access to a visit a retail outlet, take a browse at both products and see how they would fit-in with your home entertainment set-up, your budget, and needs.
