Cogeco HD Channels using Built in ATSC/QAM Tuner

Hello to all,

I'm new to the HDTV World (ain't christmas great!).

Heres whats happening - my TV has an ATSC Tuner, and when I scan the cable I get a whole bunch of SD (480i) and 1 HD (A&E HD @ 720p) channel.

Looks like the same channels as basic cable?

They are sitting @ 87-X, 89-X and 90-X

As far as I'm concerned its all good - I just haven't seen any other posts on this?

Just curious about whats happening, is this a cogeco service that is supported - or is it just there? or will it go "poof" and disappear someday?

It's been a few weeks, and there are new channels added to Cogeco's lineup.

Does anyone have a list of the Cogeco channels frequency assignments?

I've seen the list from the person in Milton, but it doesn't correspond with what we get in Oakville.
I've done a scan of qam channels with my Sanyo DP50747, and saw cogeco has started to increase the number of free qam channels in my area (around 48 tv channels) which is kinda nice. i love the free hdnet & discovery hd... but i've noticed two things though, most of A&E HD shows are window boxed (effectively 480p?), is this what everyone else gets? Also a lot of the qam SD channels are also not quite as clear as their analog counterparts, is that everyone else's experience?
Hi I'm new here ....

Sorry for the reply title, I have just purchased a new hdtv this one http://ca.lge.com/en/products/model/detail/plasmatv_42pb4d.jhtml
and I have taken advantage of the cogeco offer in my area(St.Catharines). I noticed that without the rental box I'm getting all the channels Kevin S has posted here thanks for that list:). The question I have here is since my new set has a built in DVR when I use the rental HD box I cannot set my DVR to record from the TVGOS since my set is now on channel 3 and cannot watch TV without the cable box on. I have the 6200 unit from Cogeco. I don't think an A B switch would work.

Any tips would be great.

:)
Sound

I am getting plenty of the QAM channels through my Sony HDTV from cogeco. But there are 2 or 3 that have no sound but perfect HD picture. Is there anyway to get this sound? I believe when I had the tv do a scan it came up with 50 analog and over 100 digital channels. All but a few have the sound. Of course the one I want the most Fox Sports for the baseball games has great picture but no audio.
Any help appreciated.

Thank You
I've been configuring MythTV for the available QAM channels via the HDHomeRun. My Cogeco cable results for (East) Oakville are:

I guess I can safely get one of those TiVo HD units and use it to record OTA HD via ATSC and Clear QAM too. I'm in North Oakville (Glen Abbey).
Clear QAM Channels in Kingston?

So I just picked up an HVR-1600 for my Cogeco connection, and I was just wondering if anyone knows what clear QAM channels are available through cogeco. The card seems to be picking up signals but they all say "locked" so I can't get anything. I was reading around before trying this and lots of ppl said that there were lots of clear QAM channels on Cogeco, so just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if they encrypted their signals?

Thanks
To add to this, there is some signal strength on channels 73 and 74 in the WinTV program, but they go up and down constantly, however they don't show "locked"

There are a bunch of splitters in the line, I'm sure that's not helping, but why would the non Clear QAM channels have a strong signal then?

Hey 57, I have read this topic already, as well as the QAM link as well. Thanks for the help though.

I am also having this problem does anyone know why you can't get sound off some of the HD channels?
I ave an LCD with QAM tuner upstairs (no box) and I get the same thing. No sound but perfect HD picture. It's just Cogeco's way of making sure you rent the HD box and pay the fee. ( I do get Raptors TV HD with sound though!)

oh alright so im not the only one with this problem. So this isnt a problem with my TV or anything? I am also getting raptors HD with sound...so we're in the same boat there.
The reason you are getting Raptors HD with sound is because its available to everyone as a free preview until Nov. 28th, thats why its available using any QAM tuner.
Using SD box alongside QAM

Hi. I've scanned the forum but haven't seen an answer to this question yet, so hopefully someone can help me. I currently have Cogeco's SD digital cable, and don't want to pay to get their HD signal. I am planning on picking up a plasma with a QAM tuner. Does anyone know if I can use this alongside the SD STB, such as using the STB for the SD channels and then switch to the QAM tuner for HD. Will this work, or will I actually need to pay for HD? I live in east Oakville. Any help will be appreciated.
I've scanned the forum but haven't seen an answer to this question yet
Really? Please read the link in posts 2, 11 and 32 of this thread, along with earlier posts in this thread. In most areas, the HD channels that people wish to see are encrypted.

I just purchased a Sony KDL-46vl160 on boxing day and after turning it on and setting it up for the first time, the channels above were the ones I get with my QAM tuner. As well as 20-30 music channels which I don't use.

However, my TVGOS (TV guide On Screen) does not work at all. Has anyone else who bought a new tv had this problem? It's been over a week and it says it is still searching for listing info.
